This short course is suitable for total beginners or to others wanting to build speed and confidence. A perfect start in becoming a nail technician. The course will support you in nail preparation, tip application and Acrylic overlay.
What will I study?

Level 2 Award in Nail Technology - Acrylic Nails (CITY & GUILDS)
The course requires that you complete the following Mandatory units:
- Unit 202 Follow health and safety in the salon - be able to maintain health, safety and security practices.
- Unit 214 Provide and maintain nail enhancement
Outcome 1: Be able to prepare for nail enhancement services.
Practical skills
The learner can:
- prepare themselves, client and work area for nail enhancement services
- use suitable consultation techniques to identify service objectives
- carry out a nail and skin analysis
- provide clear recommendations to the client
- select products, tools and equipment to suit client treatment needs and nail conditions
Underpinning knowledge
The learner can:
- describe salon requirements for preparing themselves, the client and the work area
- describe the environmental conditions suitable for nail enhancement services
- describe different consultation techniques used to identify service objectives
- explain the importance of carrying out a detailed nail and skin analysis
- describe how to select products, tools and equipment to suit client treatment needs and nail conditions
- identify nail conditions
- describe the contra-indications which prevent or restrict nail enhancement services
Outcome 2: Be able to provide nail enhancement services
Practical skills
The learner can:
- communicate and behave in a professional manner
- follow health and safety working practices and industry Code of Practice for nail services
- position themselves and client correctly throughout the service
- use products, tools, equipment and techniques to suit clients service needs and nail conditions
- complete the service to the satisfaction of the client
- record the results of the service
- provide suitable aftercare advice
Underpinning knowledge
The learner can:
- state how to communicate and behave in a professional manner
- describe health and safety working practices and industry Code of Practice for Nail Services
- explain the importance of positioning themselves and the client correctly throughout the service
- explain the importance of using products, tools, equipment and techniques to suit client’s service needs and nail and skin conditions
- describe how services can be adapted to suit client service needs and nail conditions
- describe how to maintain and remove nail enhancements
- state the contra-actions that may occur during and following service and how to respond
- state the importance of completing the service to the satisfaction of the client
- state the aftercare advice that should be provided
- describe the chemical process involved in the nail enhancement system
- describe the structure and functions of the nail and skin
- describe the different natural nail shapes

There are no entry criteria other than a keen interest in this subject.
How will I be assessed?
-
You will be required to bring clients/models for the course from formative and summative assessments in week 9-11 (3-5 people), please wear all black clothing or you can purchase a tunic and pants from us.
