Mechatronics Maintenance Technicians ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding safety, quality, delivery and cost within high value manufacturing environments.

Overview
Typically the work would cover a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going planned maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a complex blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.

What will I study?
Taking ownership and preparing for task completion
Accept responsibility for the task and complete any preparatory documentation or opening of electronic recording that may be required to commence the task.Coordinate and communicate maintenance
Plan and prepare the maintenance activities to cause minimal disruption to normal working, agree planned actions and obtain any required permits or permissions required to carry out the task. Communicate and report issues affecting equipment availability that may impact on operationsResource selection and preparation
Select, obtain and prepare all resources required to carry out the task for example: tools, materials, documentation, permits. Carry out pre-use checks of equipment, tools and other resources.Safe systems of work
Set up safe systems of work ensuring that statutory regulations and organisational compliance requirements are met.Component manufacture & repair
Manufacture, repair or refurbish components using a range of hand and machine tools.Mechatronics maintenance compliance
Perform mechatronics maintenance activities ensuring all parts and consumables used in the maintenance activity comply with manufacturers specifications.Documentation control & compliance
Revise, edit, update and store documentation. Comply with organisational policies and legislation regarding document and electronic storage.Planned preventative maintenance
Carry out planned preventative maintenance including functional, static and operational checks on complex equipment and assets.Condition monitoring techniques
Apply condition monitoring techniques or use condition monitoring results (for example oil, vibration, thermal, NDT) to determine equipment condition.Testing, measurement & diagnosis
Use a range of test and measuring equipment (including both electrical and physical measures) and appropriate calculations required to carry out the task and to aid in fault diagnosis.Equipment reinstatement & checks
Return equipment to operational condition, re-connect any ancillary equipment and services, and carry out required functional, static, quality and operational checks to confirm equipment serviceability and fitness for purpose.Workplace restoration & handover
Restore workplace and leave in a safe condition. Hand over completed work to responsible parties confirming completion of maintenance activities. -

English and Maths
You will only need to complete English and Maths Functional Skills if you are unable to provide evidence of your GCSE qualifications or if your existing grades are just below the required entry requirements.
Apprentices who began their apprenticeship training when aged 19+ will no longer be subject to the mandatory requirement to study towards and achieve English and maths. However, for apprentices aged 19+, the apprentice or their employer can still choose for the apprentice to study towards an English and maths qualification.
The Functional Skills programme runs as an addition to the time you are already required to spend doing your off-the-job training. Following a thorough assessment process, we will select a learning plan suitable for you, which will be either 2-weeks full-time or 12-weeks (one day per-week) each for English and/or maths.
If a subject needs re-sitting, this will be additional time in the classroom on top of your learning plan.

How will I be assessed?
At the end of your Apprenticeship you’ll go through an end-point assessment (EPA) and be graded based on a:

- Interview based on a portfolio of evidence
