This 4 hour course outlines a range of knowledge and practical skills in providing basic life support (BLS) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely. Learners will practise assessing and managing a casualty who needs BLS and the safe use of an AED.

  • Overview

    Please note we can deliver this course for a group on your premises or here at College for a maximum of 12 candidates this is priced at £300 per group (additional travel costs apply).

     

    The qualification and the learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of: 

    • The Resuscitation Council (UK)
    • Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications

    This 4 hour course outlines a range of knowledge and practical skills in providing basic life support (BLS) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely. Learners will practise assessing and managing a casualty who needs BLS and the safe use of an AED.

    This qualification is for people who have a specific interest or responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities e.g. a first aider, in being able to provide BLS when dealing with an emergency situation which may involve using an AED.

  • What will I study?

    The course will cover the following:

    • Management of an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
    • Management of an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
    • Know how to safely use an automated external defibrillator
    • Be able to safely use an automated external defibrillator
  • Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The following are the methods of assessment for the Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (RQF) qualification: 

    • Practical assessments these are observed by the trainer throughout the four-hour course

    There are three practical assessments:

    • CPR
    • Use of an AED (BLS/AED)
    • Recovery Position

    On success completion of the course candidates will be awarded the Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (RQF) Qualification, which is valid for a period of 1 year, within which time the learner will need to re-take the course and assessments to remain qualified.
