Overview

The Level 1 Certificate in Fashion, awarded by City & Guilds, is for learners who want to develop their practical skills in fashion design and construction.

It is a largely practical course which gives opportunity to develop and practise the creative skills required to progress in the Fashion sector.  The assignments covered focus on building a set of practical sewing skills and well as developing creativity.

This course allows adult learners to study on a part time basis, attending on tuesday and  Thursday from 12.20pm to 2.30pm during the day so it can be accommodated alongside employment, childcare and other commitments. It might be of particular interest to those wanting a career change or those just wanting to experience something different and enhance their practical and creative skills.

What will I study?

The course is made up of 4 units and focuses on developing the necessary skills and knowledge to design and construct fashion garments. Learners are given practical tuition on the use of sewing machines and other industrial equipment.  The projects on the course cover; exploring design ideas, sampling fashion techniques and textile decoration.  Learners will learn how to use all of these elements to make an unlined skirt.

You will be based in our new £18.3 million Beacon Centre. In order for you to flourish in the creative field we have invested in professional facilities such as spacious studios, industrial sewing machines, pattern cutting facilities, industrial overlocker, screen printing and weaving equipment, digital fabric and wallpaper printer, Apple Mac design suites and our very own in house photography studio and infinity curve as well as workshop spaces for print, 3D construction, pottery and plaster.
