A large amount of financial support is available for students who want to return to study. Many students pay no upfront fees when they choose to study - instead, a range of loans and grants are available. Depending on your financial circumstances and the course you choose, you may pay no fees at all!

Our Student Finance team are on hand to support you whatever level you wish to study at.

They can help with:

  • Ensuring you are fully aware of the funding opportunities that are available to you
  • Applying for funding and accessing loans
  • Assisting you if you’re in genuine financial hardship
  • Supporting you with advice about travel (where applicable)
  • Assisting with short term emergency hardship (where applicable)

As an adult learner there is a lot of financial support available to help you return to study. At Blackburn College there are a number of opportunities to help you reduce or even eliminate costs enabling you to either study for free or study with no upfront fees.

We have now developed a new student support package. Our ‘All About You’ Support Offer is new, and improved and all about you. As each situation is personal and unique we recommend a visit to our financial support team who will make sure you feel supported and get the financial support you need.

Many of our adult learners qualify for reduced fees. You may not have to pay any fees depending on your personal circumstances.

Depending on the course you choose, you may get Council Tax exemptions.

The ‘All About You’ Support Offer allows us to tailor the financial support out 19+ students receive and develop an individualised package that works for your needs.   • Receive payments up to the value of £500*
    *Eligibility criteria applies. £500 example based on Full Time eligible student benefiting from any of the following; stationary, loaned IT equipment and travel support
  • 90% of Term Time Childcare costs for 20+ year olds**
  • FREE childcare if you are under 20 years old, for more information visit Care to Learn.
  • FREE essential kit and uniform
  • FREE breakfasts Exam fee support (Dependant on benefit entitlement)
    Tuition fee support (discretionary basis - see Student Finance for more details)
  • Council Tax support**

All funds are dependent on attendance and progress on your course and all funds are limited. Please apply early.

If you’re enrolling on an Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 course, are eligible for funding and work and earn less than £16,009.50 a year, you may not have to pay anything due to new government policy.

Advanced Learner Loans

Why wait to change your career?

If you are aged 24 or over or are 19-23 and already have a Level 3 qualification (eg. A Levels) you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund your Level 3 or Level 4 course.

Advanced Learner Loans have been introduced by the Government to help you pay for your tuition fees. You only repay your loan when you are earning over £25,725 a year. Repayments are small.

An Advanced Learner Loan could help you:

  • Enter higher education
  • Gain a place on a UK Top 10 degree at University Centre at Blackburn College
