Blackburn College Celebrates Successful Results Day 2023

A Level and BTEC results at the college increased against a national and regional downfall in pass rates.

Blackburn College, one of the largest FE colleges in the North West, is celebrating after its students bucked the national and regional trends on Results Day.

A Level students achieved a 100% Pass Rate in 20 subjects and 99% overall, with a seven per cent increase in students receiving high grades (A*-B), at a time when nationally top results have dipped by almost 10% and regionally, top grades fell to 24.1% in the North West.

While vocational BTEC students achieved a 98% overall Pass Rate and an exceptional high grade rate, with many students achieving Distinction and Distinction* grades.

There was excitement all round as students received confirmed offers from prestigious universities across the country, including the University of Manchester, the University of Liverpool, Lancaster University, The University of Law, Goldsmiths, University London, Edge Hill University, the University of Leicester, De Montfort University, University of the Arts London – with some students staying on to progress to University Centre Blackburn College.

This year’s students will go on to study a range of subjects from Medicine and Surgery, Law, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Software Engineering to Fine Art and History of Art, Nursing, Audiology, Education and Policing. Others are heading into work via degree apprenticeships.

Commenting at this year’s Results Day, Dr Fazal Dad, Principal and Chief Executive: “We are absolutely delighted that our outstanding results have bucked the national trend with our students achieving a high proportion of top grades (A*to B) and securing places at some of the UK’s highest ranked universities.

"In addition to this, we are celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate in 20 different A-Level subjects, including Maths, Physics, Psychology and Law, which is a testament to the hard work of our students and staff.

"Following the COVID-19 pandemic, our students have sat unaided external exams for the first time. Therefore, their achievements are even more remarkable and reflect the dedication of both students and teachers at the College.

“I would like to congratulate all our students on their hard work and dedication and wish them well in the future as they move onto their university choices, apprenticeships and employment."

Rachel Tarplee, Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality, at Blackburn College, added: “We’ve also had some exceptional vocational results which have placed students on some of the top university courses for civil engineering and policing to name a few.

“Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and commitment, we wish them all the best of luck for their futures.

 “Our vocational courses link in with local economic priorities areas – including health and cyber security – which means that our students are going into jobs that will play a major role in our local economy.”

Enrolment for September is taking place from Monday 21 August. In line with its commitment to providing its students with work-ready skills, the College will also launch T Levels from September 2023. Students will be able to study a T-level in Digital, Childcare or Health.
