Job Description
The Old Vicarage Nursery is a warm, welcoming childcare setting dedicated to helping children learn, grow, and flourish in a safe and nurturing environment. Our team is passionate about high‑quality early years care, strong relationships with families, and fostering a love of learning through play.
As a Level 2 Apprentice, you will join an experienced and supportive team committed to helping you develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to achieve your qualification and progress in your early years career.
Duties
To work as part of the nursery team to deliver high‑quality care and early education for children aged 0–5, while completing the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship. You will learn to support children’s development, contribute to a stimulating environment, and uphold the nursery’s values and safeguarding culture.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Children’s Learning & Development
- Support the delivery of planned activities that promote children’s learning across the EYFS.
- Engage children in meaningful play that supports their communication, physical, emotional, and social development.
- Observe children’s progress and share insights with senior practitioners to contribute to assessments.
- Help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where children feel safe, valued, and confident.
Safeguarding & Welfare
- Follow all nursery safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment both indoors and outdoors.
- Support children with personal care routines (e.g., toileting, feeding) sensitively and professionally.
- Promote healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Work under the guidance of qualified practitioners and be an active part of the nursery team.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and apprenticeship workshops.
- Communicate positively with colleagues, children, and families.
- Reflect on your own practice and seek constructive feedback to support your learning.
Daily Operational Tasks
- Help set up and tidy away resources and activities.
- Contribute to maintaining a stimulating and organised learning environment.
- Assist in preparing snacks and mealtimes where required.
- Comply with all nursery policies, including health and safety, behaviour, and confidentiality.
Skills

Qualifications
Will need to pass an initial assessment at Blackburn College.
