  • Overview

    This is a hands on, practical experience in a wide range of disciplines centred around Music Technology. We use state of the art equipment to give you the best possible experience. We have industry standard hardware and software, such as Pro Tools and Logic Pro software, Avid C24 and /Allen & Heath GSR24M desks and a range of professional quality microphones.

    The course offers valuable experience which sets students on a career focused trajectory through work experience and practical study. The Music Technology students at Blackburn College run events, recording sessions, practical equipment demonstrations, and even contribute to a student-run record label.

  • What will I study?

    The UAL curriculum is both cutting-edge and relevant to the modern student. In this vocational course you will receive a foundation of knowledge over the wide range of disciplines involved with Music Technology. We produce music, record bands and artists, mix live sound for gigs and events, study the physics of sound, remix tracks and (in the second year of this programme) you will develop and run the student record label, signing artists, recording a product and launching it an end of year event.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The emphasis of assessments on the course is developing you as a music technologist with a range of skills and approaches to music recording, live performance support, and broader technical and organisational skills that are needed in the real world. There are no formal examinations.

  • What can I do next?

    At the end of the course our students leave with a UAL Extended Diploma: Music Practitioner – Technology. This is the equivalent of 3 A-Levels from A*-C. A high proportion of our students leave us to study further in Higher Education. We’ve sent students to Salford University, BIMM University, the School of Sound Recording (Manchester and London), Huddersfield, UCLAN (Preston), and many more.Other students have gained employment, internships or freelance work within the music industry.

    Management Accountant

    Management accountants are responsible for managing a company's finances. They look after a company's accounts. They also find ways of improving profitability and growth. So if you are interested in finance and business, this could be just what you're looking for.

    To do this job you will need to have good maths and computer skills. You’ll need accuracy and attention to detail. You’ll also need good communication skills.

    To start working you will have to finish training with one of the professional bodies. Most management accountants choose to do this with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
