Clearing FAQs

1. What is Clearing?

Clearing is a process managed by UCAS that matches applicants to full-time higher education places in universities and colleges. It's an opportunity to find a suitable course, even if you're applying after 30 June or didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept).

2. When does Clearing start and end?

Clearing is open from 2 July 2026 and closes on 19 October 2026. You can apply through UCAS Clearing before results day if you don't have an offer from another university or college.

3. How do I check my application status during Clearing?

If you've already applied through UCAS, go online and check your application status. Your Clearing number will be shown if you're in Clearing, and you'll need this number before contacting us.

4. What information do I need to have ready for Clearing?

Have your details handy, including your results, mobile number, Clearing number, and a refreshed personal statement.

5. How do I apply through Clearing?

If you have previously applied through UCAS, check your UCAS Hub to see if you are in Clearing! If you are, your Clearing number will be displayed; keep it handy for applications.

You can also browse our courses that still have spaces available, or call our Clearing Helpline where our skilled staff will guide you through the process. Call us on 01254 292594.

6. What tips can help me with Clearing?

  • Check available courses on UCAS or our website
  • Have your qualifications and work experience details on hand.
  • Take time to make a well-thought-out decision.
  • Tell Student Finance England about any course choice changes
  • Check UCAS for live clearing vacancies across the country.

7. Can I get support with Clearing at Blackburn College?

Yes, the Careers team at Blackburn College is experienced in helping students with Clearing. Visit the dedicated drop-in service for support or call our Clearing Helpline: 01254 292594.

8. What happens on Results Day?

UCAS will be open from 8am, so once you know your results, you will be able to use the UCAS Clearing process to try and secure a University place. If you need any support during this process call our Clearing Helpline or drop by the Beacon Centre and speak to some of our friendly staff.

9. Do I need to wait for Results Day?

Not at all - Clearing will have been open since the 2 July, so if you don't already have an offer of a place, you could still apply for a course if there are openings.

10. Who is Clearing for?

Clearing is for anyone who:

  • Didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept)
  • Applied after 30 June
  • Didn't meet the conditions of their offers
  • Used the ‘decline my place’ button in their application

11. Okay... this last one isn’t technically a FAQ, but is us asking you not to stress!

Our amazing staff and tutors will be able to help you on the day, no matter what your results are. So just remember – you’ve got this!
