This Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Fashion, Textiles and Design aims to provide a firm foundation in core fashion and textile practice and to encourage personal development and expression.

  • Overview

    This Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Fashion, Textiles and Design aims to provide a firm foundation in core fashion and textile practice and to encourage personal development and expression. The course helps students to find out what you enjoy, what you are good at and allows you to develop a set of valuable skills for future study and work.

This Extended Diploma is extremely well regarded across design education in the United Kingdom and abroad.

    We have a first-class record in placing talented students on the best degree course at institutions such as Ravensbourne, Chelsea School of Art & Design, Ruskin School at Cambridge, Leeds College of Art, Goldsmiths, London College of Communication, The Slade, Wimbledon, Camberwell College of Art, Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion. Many students on the programme also progress on to Blackburn University Centre.

  • What will I study?

    The course is made up of 9 units in year one and a further 4 larger units in year two. You will be given a range of projects that challenge you to explore different areas of fashion and textiles practice including core drawing skills (visual studies to fashion illustration), printmaking, surface pattern design, garment construction, weave and embroidery - all supported by contextual studies throughout.

  • Entry Requirements

    To study A-Level Accounting you will need 5 x C/4  grades at GCSE, one of which needs to be  GCSE English Language.  Please note that for A-Level Accounting you will need a grade B /5 in Maths.

  • How will I be assessed?

    In this qualification you will engage with study through a range of creative assignments, all of which help build confidence, knowledge and skills in preparation for your final Project Proposal and Realisation at the end of year two; in which you will specialise.

  • What can I do next?

    This qualification is mapped to the Level 3/4 UAL Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma at Blackburn College. Many students wish to complete this varied, higher level course before they progress onto University or employment.

    Students can also progress to Fashion and Textiles courses at leading institutions in the UK. In addition, students also progress directly to employment within the creative industries. Many students also choose to progress on to programmes at Blackburn University Centre which allow you to follow a range of specialisms. These include:

    • Graphic Design
    • Animation and Game Arts
    • Photography and Moving Image 
    • Fashion and Textiles
    • Fine Art

    These courses are all validated by UK Top 15 Lancaster University.

    Fashion Designer

    Fashion designers design clothing and fashion ranges. As a fashion designer, you could work in high fashion or designer ready-to-wear fashion. You could also work in high street fashion. You would often specialise in particular types of clothing - for example in men’s, children’s or sportswear. If you love being creative and you are passionate about fashion, this job could be perfect for you.

    To be a fashion designer, you will need to have a good eye for colour and shape. You’ll need skills like pattern cutting and sewing. You’ll also need to able to spot trends.

    You will usually need a relevant degree to do this job. A course that teaches both design and technical skills will give you the knowledge you need to work in the industry.
