This Level 2 Barbering programme will prepare you with the skills and knowledge for your next step into working in the Barbering industry by gaining professional skills in modern barbering techniques.

Overview

This Level 2 Barbering programme will prepare you with the skills and knowledge for your next step into working in the Barbering industry by gaining professional skills in modern barbering techniques.  You will learn and enhance your skill of cutting mens hair and facial hair plus gain an understanding of working with a professional salon environment.  Many of our students progress to Level 3 Barbering and go on to opening their own barbering business.

What will I study?

The course will cover mandatory generic and technical units plus optional units which you will be guided on. Mandatory units include:

  • Cut men's hair using basic techniques
  • Health and Safety
  • Client consultation
  • Shampoo, condition and scalp treatment
  • Colour and lighten men's hair
  • Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
  • Cut facial hair using basic techniques
  • Dry finish men's hair
  • Create basic outlines and detailing in hair

Entry Requirements

For school leavers you will need 3 x GCSE's at grade C/4 or above.  You will also need a suitable reference from your tutor, evidence of good attendance and punctuality and a commitment to succeed.

For 19+ learners you will need to display commitment to learn and achieve.

How will I be assessed?

Through a range of practical assessments and theory assessments which can consist of online or paper based testing and assignments.

What can I do next?

You will be able to progress onto the Barbering Level 3 Diploma and work at as an entry level Barber.

Hairdresser

If you enjoy hairstyling and like meeting different people, this could be the perfect job for you. Hairdressers cut, colour and shape clients' hair to create the look they want.

You can train as a hairdresser either full-time or part-time at a college. You could also work as a trainee, where you would learn on the job and go to college on day release.

To become a hairdresser, you will need to have customer service and 'people' skills. You’ll need creativity and an awareness of fashion. You’ll also need a willingness to learn new techniques and methods.
