Within the Health, Adult and Childcare sectors there are a variety of career options available, these include working with young adults, individuals with a range of disabilities and mental health issues, the elderly, respite care and day centres, personal assistants, healthcare assistants, outreach workers, care and support workers.

    Within the Health, Adult and Childcare sectors there are a variety of career options available, these include working with young adults, individuals with a range of disabilities and mental health issues, the elderly, respite care and day centres, personal assistants, healthcare assistants, outreach workers, care and support workers.

    If you think you may be interested in a career in Health, Social Care or with children and young people, this course will give you an introduction to the expectations of the sector.

    You will study with a group of like-minded individuals in a safe and supportive environment.

    On this 12 week course you will complete 8 knowledge units relevant to the sector. 

    You will attend a 3 hour taught session once a week.

    These sessions will give you the opportunity to explore the subject matter with the tutor and your fellow students through discussion, relevant scenarios and sharing experiences.  In addition you will be provided with information and guidance on independent research to support you to fully explore each subject.

    • Introduction to working in adult care
    • Investigating rights and responsibilities at work

    There are no formal entry requirements for this course.  At interview you will be required to complete a short written assessment in order to establish your basic literacy skills.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will complete an assignment at the end of each unit, which is then marked on a Pass/Fail basis. You will have the opportunity after receiving feedback to re-submit your work.

  • What can I do next?

    On successful completion of the study programme and if you have gained employment or found a volunteering position in a relevant setting for more than 7 hours a week you may be given the opportunity to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care.  This would include taught sessions in College, and assessment in your setting.  You would be invited to apply and come in for interview to discuss this in more detail.
