    A-level Politics offers a fascinating insight into how power, government, and political ideas shape the world around us. You’ll explore how decisions are made, why ideologies are important and how both the UK and US political systems operate in practice. You will engage with real-world issues, from taxation and healthcare to equality and justice, gaining the knowledge and confidence to question, challenge, and engage with key debates affecting us all. Politics equips you with the critical thinking, analytical writing, and communication skills that are highly valued by universities and employers alike. Whether you're aiming for a career in law, journalism, international relations or simply want to understand the forces driving change, Politics is a thought-provoking and empowering subject choice.

  • What will I study?

    UK Politics
    Explores democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour, and the influence of the media. 
     
    UK Government
    Examines the structure and functions of government, including the constitution, parliament, the prime minister, the judiciary, and the relationship between these different institutions.
     
    Comparative Politics
    You will compare the US political system with the UK, looking at the US Constitution, Congress, the President, Supreme Court, and civil rights. You assess similarities and differences between the two democracies, building synoptic understanding.
     
    Political Ideologies
    Explores key political ideologies like liberalism, conservatism, socialism, and feminism and their impact on political thought and action. 
    You will analyse these core ideas, tensions within the ideology, and their views on human nature, society, the state, and the economy

    A-Level students will be assessed by written exam.
