Introduction to Linux

This course is designed for individuals who are new to Linux and want to learn how to use and manage a Linux operating system. It is ideal for beginners, IT support staff, students considering a career in networking or cyber security, and anyone interested in learning how Linux systems operate.

No previous Linux experience is required. The course begins with the basics of installing a Linux distribution and gradually introduces the core skills needed to navigate and manage a Linux system using both graphical tools and the command line.

This course is particularly useful for those interested in IT infrastructure, cyber security, or system administration, where Linux systems are widely used.

This course introduces the fundamental concepts and practical skills required to use and manage a Linux system.

Topics covered include:

· Introduction to Linux and open-source operating systems

· Understanding Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, Kali and others)

· Installing a Linux operating system using a virtual machine or physical system

· Navigating the Linux desktop environment

· Introduction to the Linux command line (Terminal)

· Understanding the Linux file system structure

· Basic command-line navigation and file management

· Creating, copying, moving, and deleting files and directories

· User accounts and permissions

· Installing and managing software packages

· Updating and maintaining a Linux system

· Basic networking commands in Linux

· Introduction to system monitoring and troubleshooting

Learners will work with Linux systems throughout the course and practise using both graphical tools and command-line commands.

The course is delivered through weekly evening sessions combining short tutor-led demonstrations with hands-on practical exercises.

Each session will introduce a key Linux concept before learners complete guided practical tasks on their own Linux systems. Students will learn how to install Linux, configure their system, and perform common administrative tasks.

Upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion in Introduction to Linux.
