Overview
This occupation is found in the engineering and manufacturing sector.The broad purpose of the occupation is to offer engineering support, technical leadership and expertise. Examples can include support for installation, refit, overhaul, alteration, upgrading, design and maintenance. They can also provide support for testing of significant assets, systems or machinery.They assist in the delivery of complex and critical asset management programmes. These asset management programmes are often to unique specifications involving complex maintenance and planning. They analyse technical information, plan schedules, co-ordinate, lead and deliver work on time.They ensure work is completed to the required quality, following product and personnel safety processes. They provide customer liaison, leadership, support and expertise to maintenance teams on technical issues. -
What will I study?
This qualification is predominantly theory-based, focusing on developing leadership and technical management skills for engineers. It is designed to prepare individuals for supervisory and managerial roles rather than to provide in-depth practical training in maintenance.
To complete this apprenticeship, learners are also required to achieve a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering.

- Risk identification, risk assessments, mitigations and safe systems of work
- Awareness of environment and sustainability regulations
- Engineering mathematical techniques and scientific principles
- Problem solving techniques: diagnostics, root cause analysis
- Maintenance and engineering strategies, practices and techniques
- Engineering, manufacturing and maintenance technical information
- Manufacturers’ instructions: what they are and how to use them
- Awareness of engineering international, national and regulatory standards
- Leadership and management techniques

Entry Requirements
Students will need the following to study this apprenticeship:
Maths: GCSE 5 / English: GCSE 4 / Science: GCSE 4
Must have either: Level 3 Engineering, Level 3 Science, A-Levels (relevant).
Work Experience in Engineering Role.

How will I be assessed?
At the end of your time on programme you will complete an End Point Assessment that will include a practical observation and a professional discussion underpinned by a reflective portfolio, these elements will be conducted an external examiner.

What can I do next?
You can progress onto a HND at university, including University Centre Blackburn College (UCBC) or a Level 6 apprenticeship.
You can progress onto the following course:
Pearson Higher National Diploma (HND) In Mechanical Engineering for England
or you are able to go straight into employment.
