Sometimes we all need a fresh start. We recognise that some students can often face setbacks that are sometimes difficult to overcome. Foundation Learning at Blackburn College can offer a fantastic opportunity to get your learning and College career back on track and maybe even on the road to employment. We will help you focus on personal development and the skills you need to help you thrive in a life at College or in a job. Our range of Starting Out courses are for students who are ready to take the first steps into College life. Our aim is to help you develop a variety of important skills - social, academic and practical skills. We will provide you with the support and encouragement for you to grow in confidence and express your personality so that you’re ready to move onto your next course at College. You will also study Functional Skills English and Maths or GCSE Maths and English.

What will I study?

This programme is full-time and lasts for one year. You will study a range of units that will help build your confidence so that you can then move onto a full-time course in a specific academic year the following year.

When you complete this course you will gain a Certificate in Personal and Social Development (Entry Level 2).

You will also study Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths in order for you to gain a recognised English and Maths qualification. Developing your English and Maths skills is important in order to progress to another course.

Entry Requirements

This is so you will be able to meet the team who will be teaching you and have a look where you will be studying. You will have an Initial Assessment when you start College this will help us determine that this course is the right one for you.
