    It is mandatory, that learners will hold a recognised Level 3 qualification or apprenticeship standard in automotive maintenance and repair (learners must proof their IMI Level 3 Technical Specialist in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement (Award).

     

    The purpose and aim of this new IMI hydrogen vehicle qualification (VRQ) is to give awareness to individuals from the retail automotive industry and the public service sector in hydrogen vehicles.

     

    This qualification has been developed by IMI in conjunction with hydrogen vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers and the IMI Sector Skills Council (standard setting organisation). The qualification is essential to ensure the health and safety of individuals operating around hydrogen vehicles.

     

    This qualification has been designed to be engaging and motivating, to support Learners in gaining the key knowledge and skills typically required by vehicle maintenance and repair employers.

  • What will I study?

    This unit enables learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to safely carry out the removal and replacement of components in hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) systems. The unit also ensures that the technician is aware of the hazards posed by hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle systems and the safe working practices to follow when carrying out removal and replacement activities.

     

    The mandatory units covered include:

     

    · Knowledge in Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle System Repair and Replacement

    · Practical task - Isolate the hydrogen tanks and purge the system of gas

  • Entry Requirements

    This course is suitable for individuals who have appropriate vehicle maintenance, repair knowledge and skills at level 3 or have gained an IMI Level 2 qualification in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities.

  • How will I be assessed?

    To pass this qualification, Learners must demonstrate their learning outcomes by following and achieving assessment components.

     

    This will consist of:

    1. Knowledge Assessment

    2. Practical Task

  • What can I do next?

    After this course you may consider the Level 4 qualification, which further develops their knowledge and skills within a technical role, carrying out diagnosis, repair and testing of high voltage components on Electric/Hybrid vehicles:
