A Blackburn College student is on the road to success after securing a place to study at the University of Oxford.

Morgan Grimshaw, 18, was offered a place at the prestigious university to study Law at Pembroke College, after securing top grades in his A-Levels, gaining A* in History, A in Law and B in English Literature.

The former Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School student who aspires to become a barrister, took part in the college’s OxNet Programme last year which gives information and advice about applying to Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities.

While in July, Morgan was awarded the A-level Student of the Year Award, and the Governor’s Award, at the college’s Further Education Star Awards, after being nominated by members of staff for his hard work and dedication to his studies.

Morgan was offered the place at the University of Oxford after a thorough and demanding application process, which included completing the LNAT Law admissions test and completing a remote interview.

Morgan said: “I am really happy to have got a place at the University of Oxford, this has topped off what has been an enjoyable time at Blackburn College over the last two years.

“I’m looking forward to moving to Oxford and am excited to be starting my degree, especially the area of Jurisprudence which is the philosophy of law.

“My course begins in October, but I have a two-week residential trip in September first at Pembroke College which I’m looking forward to.

“My tutors at Blackburn College have been so supportive, particularly David Jones. They’ve helped a lot with the application and admissions process to Oxford. They’ve not only helped me with my subjects, but they have also given me support for applying to university and with finding and applying for scholarships.

“The facilities at Blackburn College have been great, we have places to study and places to sit down and socialise with our friends. I’d definitely recommend coming to study here.”

Dr Fazal Dad, Principal and Chief Executive of Blackburn College said: “We are extremely proud that Morgan has achieved his place at the University of Oxford, it’s a true testament to his hard-work and dedication that has been evident throughout his time at Blackburn Sixth Form.

“More than 23,000 people apply for undergraduate study at the University of Oxford, for only 3,300 places, so for Morgan to have gained a place is an outstanding achievement.

“Although applying to a university such as Oxford can be quite daunting, we encourage all of our students to strive to achieve and support them in all areas of their academic development, as well as through enrichment activities that enhance their applications.”
