Blackburn College connect with EE for job initiative

Date posted: 21st June 2023

Blackburn College teamed up with EE, DWP Local Jobcentres, and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to help more than 40 local individuals find jobs.

People who wanted to work at EE got special training to learn the skills for call centre work. They learned topics including customer service, call handling and confidentiality management.

They also received support from the MPT Steps project mentors and the National Careers Service advisers. These mentors boosted their confidence, gave them advice for interviews, and made sure they were ‘work’ ready. The candidates also got to meet EE staff and listen to phone calls which played a role in stopping any pre-interview jitters.

Cathie Hartley, The Skills for Work Manager, at Blackburn College said:

We are proud of the success of this partnership. It has demonstrated the power of collaboration in achieving shared goals and making a positive impact on the communities we serve which is a big part of our ethos at Blackburn Colleges. We look forward to continuing our work together to build on this success with future courses”.

After the program, half of those who took part secured employment. EE also joined forces with Lancashire Adult Learning for nine months and helped an additional 43 people get jobs.

Further EE programmes are planned in summer 2023, with the next one being held on the 6th July.
