BPS Accreditation Awarded to University Centre Blackburn College

Date posted: 13th September 2023

The University Centre Blackburn College’s BSc (Hons) Psychology programme has gained the highly valued and nationally recognised accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS).

The BPS is the flagship organisation for Psychology in the UK, representing the discipline and those within it for over 120-years. Achieving the accreditation highlights the high quality of provision delivered by the programme at the University Centre Blackburn College (UCBC) and places the graduates of the programme on the same level as those of far larger providers.

Following a two-year assessment process in which the Psychology team worked closely with the BPS and colleagues at Lancaster University, the validating institution for many of UCBC’s degree courses, the team were notified of their success at the start of September, just in time for the new academic year.

Gaining the accreditation means that UCBC graduates are now able to join the BPS as Graduate Members, gaining access to a wide range of training, development and employment opportunities; as well as being able to progress onto advanced Masters’ and Doctorate programmes.

The accreditation will also be backdated for 2022/23 students, who will also be able to benefit from the aforementioned.

James Waterhouse, Psychology Course Leader at UCBC, said:

“Gaining the BPS accreditation is a significant achievement for a programme and organisation of our size. The accreditation signifies that the course we have built meets the high standards set by the BPS and that our students can gain this recognition for all their hard work”.

“I am incredibly proud of the team at UCBC for being successful in the BPS accreditation – it was a long process, but well deserved by our teaching staff. We’re looking forward to the exciting opportunities that this will create for our current and future students here at the University Centre.”

Finally, Dr Fazal Dad, Principal and Chief Executive, stated that this accreditation for the BSc (Hons) Psychology programme further endorses the excellent work of staff.

Enrolment is currently open for our Psychology Qualifications, and open events are held regularly throughout the academic year, providing you with the chance to connect with our staff members and current students. More information can be found here.
