Students can put themselves forward for a Governor role. There is an FE Governor and an HE Governor.
Campaign / vote:

You can campaign and voting takes place (via online form).

The result of the student vote, with the new FE and HE Governors announced.
Student Governors – why get involved?
- You can feel you are contributing to the life of the College.
- You meet other interesting Governors and College Managers.
- You learn about how important decisions are taken.
- You can develop your skills on listening and speaking at meetings.
- You belong to a vital team of people influencing the College over a year or more.
- It is an excellent item to have on your CV.
What a Student Governor does
A Student Governor provide a learner’s perspective to the Corporation Board. The views of the student member are important and the Board is interested to hear them, with Student members given specific opportunities to raise student matters in the Student Voice Committee.
Your skills and attributes
- You have an interest in the College and a passion to make the College the best.
- You are willing to be part of the Board ‘team’.
- You must be willing to learn some of the complexities of running the College and governance.
- You are confident in speaking up and putting forward ideas and views in an appropriate manner and are able to put forward the learner’s perspective.
- You can listen and consider the views of others.
- You can put aside your personal agenda and put forward the ‘view of the learner’ in the College, and act in the best interests of the College at all times.
- You can commit a couple of hours a month to preparing for and attending meetings.
- You are expected to abide by all the governance policies and rules, and understand that confidentiality is very important.
