About Us
The Cold Case Unit at University Centre Blackburn College was established in October 2023 in collaboration with Leeds Trinity University. Our unit is dedicated to investigating and solving cold cases, providing support to law enforcement agencies, and bringing closure to families affected by unsolved crimes.

Our Mission
- Our mission is to apply advanced investigative techniques and academic expertise to revisit and solve cold cases. We aim to provide a fresh perspective on unsolved cases and support the justice system in delivering justice.

Our Team
- Our team consists of experienced investigators, academic researchers, and students from various disciplines. Under the leadership of Dr. Kirsty Bennet and our directors, Gillian Dickinson and Paula White, we work collaboratively to analyse evidence, develop new leads, and uncover the truth.
How We Work
We receive all our cases from Leeds Trinity University and work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough and meticulous investigation. Our approach combines traditional investigative methods with modern forensic science and technology.
We also work closely with the families of missing or murdered loved ones, providing them with support and regular updates throughout the investigation process. We understand the emotional toll these cases take on families, and we are committed to offering compassionate and respectful communication to help them through this difficult time.
Opportunities for Students
We welcome students from all backgrounds to join our Cold Case Unit. Our unit provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of criminal justice and forensics. By participating in our investigations, students can develop key transferable employability skills that are crucial not only within the criminal justice sector but also in any employment-seeking role. These skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication.
