  • Overview

    This course provides an introduction to the care of a variety of domestic animals. This is a very practical course, and areas of study include feeding, cleaning and handling animals as well as units covering health and safety and skills development in land-based industries.

    Time is spent both in the classroom and working with the College's animal collection.

  • What will I study?

    You will study the following modules:

    • Support the preparation and provision of feed for small animals

    • Help promote the health and welfare of animals

    • Contribute to the daily care and management of animals

    • Assist with the safe handling, movement, and housing of animals

    • Understand the fundamental principles of animal care

  • Entry Requirements

    Students must have 3 GCSEs grade 1 -2 including English or Maths or equivalent Entry Level 3 qualification along with a keen interest in the subject. Some practical knowledge of small animal care is desirable.

  • How will I be assessed?

    There will be a mixture of practical assessments and class room work. Time is spent both in the classroom and working with the College's animal collection.
