Overview
This IMI Level 2 Technical Specialist in Hydrogen Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities (Award) provides further professional development opportunities for a Technician/Learner who has completed the Level 2 Autocare Technician apprenticeship standard ST0499 or an equivalent qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair at Level 2.
This qualification has been developed in consultation with industry experts from the automotive sector, and is subject to regular ongoing reviews, due to new technologies and/or advancements in vehicle technology.

What will I study?
The qualification content provides the essential knowledge and skills for an individual to understand all varieties of hydrogen vehicle technology. The Technician/Learner will be able to know about hydrogen vehicle system components, including any hazards and safe working practices. They will also know how to reduce risks and how to safely prepare the correct working environment and identify all the major hydrogen vehicle system components. This qualification does not qualify a Technician/Learner to diagnose, rectify or purge hydrogen system components.
Individuals who wish to develop the knowledge and skills to carryout repair work directly on a vehicle’s hydrogen system should complete the IMI Level 3 Technical Specialist in Removing and Installing Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle System Components (Award) qualification. Note: An individual must have previously achieved a qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair at Level 3.

How will I be assessed?
This award introduces learners to hydrogen vehicle technology (all variations) including, and in particular, the safety requirements of working on these types of vehicles, e.g. whilst carrying out routine vehicle servicing, general repairs that are not related to the hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle components.
To pass this qualification, Learners must demonstrate their learning outcomes by following and achieving assessment components.

What can I do next?
After this course you may consider the Level 3 qualification, which further develops your knowledge and skills within a technical role, carrying out repair and replacement of hydrogen fuel cell / electric vehicle components.
