Blackburn College praises dedicated GCSE students

Date posted: 22nd August 2024

Blackburn College 16-18 students are celebrating their GCSE results in Maths, English and Biology.

The College offers three GCSE subjects for its Further Education (16-18) and Adult (19+) students who wish to retake exams or obtain these essential qualifications for the first time.

Dr Fazal Dad, Principal and Chief Executive at Blackburn College said:

Congratulations to all of our GCSE students receiving their results today. English and Maths are central to work and life and open opportunities to a host of jobs and career paths. We are proud to be able to support students from a diverse range of backgrounds and ages to achieve their ambitions. Our tutors work exceptionally hard to tailor their approaches to maximise the potential that we know is there in our students.

All FE students at Blackburn College can access a new English and Maths Success Centre which opened earlier this year. This provides additional support including 1:1 and group tutoring, revision resources, help with study plans and past papers.

Daniil Bolharenko, 18, achieved an 8 in Maths and 4 in English and hopes to continue studying at the College with the aim of pursuing a degree in Computing, Data Science or Programming.

He said: “I'm currently studying for a Level 2 Digital and IT course and now I've got the GCSE grades I need to progress onto Level 3, I can hopefully then go on to university.

“The best thing about studying at Blackburn College is the support we had from our tutors and the fact that they share the same passion with our future goals. My advice to anyone who is going for their GCSEs is to work hard and make use of the support you receive from tutors, they're always willing to help you no matter what.”

Shane Duckett, 19, has secured his GCSE in English which will enable him to study a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice at University Centre Blackburn College from September. He said: “I want to become an RAF Police Officer.

“My tutors made the course material click and took their time to help me figure it out when I wasn't understanding it.”

Charlie Hope, 19, is celebrating a 4 in GCSE Maths. He said: “This has been my favourite moment from college, I have worked so hard for it and I am so happy.”
