More than 600 students celebrate their success at Blackburn University Centre’s graduation
Hundreds of students donned gaps and gowns as they turned out for Blackburn University Centre’s 2020 and 2021 graduation ceremonies.
Around 600 students turned out to celebrate their successes at three graduation ceremonies held on Tuesday at King George’s Hall.
Two ceremonies were held at 11am and 2.30pm for students graduating in 2021, while a special graduation ceremony was held at 5pm for students from 2020 as their graduation was postponed due to Covid-19.
Drummers began the procession which started at The University Centre, led by college university partners from Lancaster University, the University of Central Lancashire and the University of South Wales.
They were met by graduands who joined the procession at Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre before making their way to King George’s Hall, where they received their degrees, Higher National Certificates and Diplomas, professional qualifications and postgraduate degrees.
I would like to congratulate all the students on their fantastic achievement, even more so with the challenges that the past 18-months have presented us with.

The College’s Leadership Team and Corporation Board were also in attendance along with the Mayor of Blackburn, Councillor Derek Hardman, and Mayoress Colette Hardman who attended the 5pm graduation.
Guests were treated to a special performance by Blackburn Children’s University Choir.
Principal and Chief Executive Dr Fazal Dad said: “Graduation is a very special day, not just for those graduating, but for their families and friends who join in celebrating their successes with them.
“I would like to congratulate all the students on their fantastic achievement, even more so with the challenges that the past 18-months have presented us with. Praise also goes to staff at the University Centre for their dedication, commitment and professionalism in helping our students to fulfil their potential.”
Mohsin Mehmood, 22, from Blackburn completed a foundation degree in Accounting with Financial Services in 2020, he said: “I’m extremely grateful for the support and encouragement provided by Blackburn University Centre throughout the course, and in particularly through the pandemic. Nothing was too much of an ask for staff and tutors.
“I’m really appreciative that rather than cancel graduation that we were able to hold a graduation ceremony in person.”
