Overview

The Financial Studies qualifications will give you the chance to become financially independent and prepare you for life after education. You will not only learn how to manage money effectively but also about income and expenditure, financial products and how public money is raised and spent. This wide selection of topics introduce you to many of the essential skills that employers say are missing, including independent thinking and numerical skills.

What will I study?

  • In the first year you will study Unit 1 Financial capability for short term, Unit 2 Financial capability for the medium and long term. In the second year you will study Unit 3 Sustainability of an individual’s finances, Unit 4 Sustainability of the financial service system.

This course will encourage you to become a responsible borrower, sensible saver and understand the need for financial planning in your life. You will have the opportunity to get involved with:

Student Investor Challenge: The Student Investor Challenge gives you the chance to experience what it’s like being a stock broker in a fast paced and competitive market. In teams, consisting of four members you will take control of two investment portfolios to invest in the stock market.

Young Financial Journalist: We want you to tap into your journalistic nature and produce a 1000 word article on a current affairs question. With the articles being judged by prominent financial journalists.

City of London Visit: You will have the opportunity to visit London and receive a presentation from a member of the Financial Capability team about the opportunities in the banking and financial services industry.
