  • Overview

    The City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations is the ideal starting point to gain the skills and knowledge required to enter the electrical industry.  The course is a practical, theoretical & work related qualification suitable for a wide range of students giving an introduction to life of and Electrical Installer.

    The qualification provides an introduction to the practices and processes of Electrical Installation techniques, giving insight into the theory behind the practice.  It covers knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to anyone interested in developing a career working as an electrician.

  • What will I study?

    • The Level 2 Diploma is made up of the following 5 units which will be studied throughout the course:


      Health & Safety in Building Services Engineering – This unit provides learners with essential health & safety knowledge and skills to demonstrate best practice in the electrical installation industry. You will gain an awareness of relevant legislation and should underpin the actives an electrician will encounter on-site.

      Principles of Electrical Science – Here you will look at the science behind the work electricians do, investigating the principles of electricity, basic circuits and AC theory.

      Electrical Installations Technology – This unit explores the underpinning principles and standards required of electrical installation technology.  You will learn about the different types of circuits and systems electricians work with, you will learn about earthing systems and the installation of wiring systems.

      Installation of Wiring Systems & Enclosures – this unit is mainly practical and you will learn the skills required to install wiring systems to recognised standards.  You will work with tools and equipment commonly found in everyday electrical installation work, developing vital skills and knowledge potential employer’s value.

      Communication with Others – here you will gain insight to the importance of the development and continued maintenance of effective working relationships within the building services industry.

    4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 including English Language and maths or completion of a Level 1 course.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course is assessed through a combination of online multiple choice examinations, practical assessments and written assignments.

  • What can I do next?

    On successful completion of the study programme you may look to enter full time employment within the engineering industry & onto the apprenticeship scheme, progress onto the Level 3 in Electrical Installation or you may also consider the Level courses in Engineering or Construction.  The qualification also allows you to work as an Electricians Mate within the industry.

    Electrical Engineer

    Electrical engineers design, build and maintain electrical control systems, machinery and equipment.

    If you are good at maths, science and IT, and you want a career in engineering, this could be an ideal option for you.

    In this job you will need to be good at solving problems, structuring your workload and enjoy working as part of a team.

    To become an electrical engineer, you would normally need to complete a foundation degree, HNC, HND or degree in electrical or electronic engineering or related subject, for example building services engineering.
