Overview
This qualification is for you if you wish to work towards becoming a plumber in the building services industry.
It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning, an apprenticeship programme or into employment.
This vocational route at Level 2 is a vital step towards becoming a competent plumber.

What will I study?
You will gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector.
You will cover compulsory aspects such as:
- Health and Safety
- Plumbing Principles
- Scientific Principles
- Cold Water
- Hot Water
- Central Heating
- Sanitation and Above Ground Drainage
In addition, you will develop an understanding of the technology that underpins all plumbing installation work.

Entry Requirements
External applicants need 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths and English Language, and a relevant Level 1 qualification.
Internal Level 1 progressing students should have Grade 3 or above in Maths and English, good attendance, and positive tutor feedback.

How will I be assessed?
Towards the end of your programme you will complete a multiple-choice, externally assessed exam. You will also complete a practical synoptic assessment with supporting written paperwork - this brings together your knowledge and practical skills from different aspects in a realistic activity.
You will also need to complete several weeks of work experience as part of the qualification. There is no coursework that contributes to your final grade.

What can I do next?
This course develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to work in the plumbing industry. It is designed for learners who are not yet employed in plumbing and want to progress to a plumbing apprenticeship or a Level 3 qualification.
Completing an apprenticeship can lead to recognition as a competent Plumbing and Domestic Heating Engineer.
Recognition as a qualified plumber requires completion of a plumbing NVQ which can only be obtained whilst working within the plumbing industry.
