Overview
History will give you a better understanding of the past, why events happened as they did and give you a clearer view of today’s society and events and why the modern world is shaped as it is.
Your study of A-Level History will not just encompass learning facts – you’ll learn to analyse and interpret information and facts and understand why things happened as they did throughout all the critical periods.
You will develop vital analytical skills through investigation, interpretation and evaluation of evidence as well as and acquiring knowledge and understanding of historical events and issues.
You will study a number of different historical periods, all of which have been chosen to expand and aid your historical understanding but also in line with students’ interest in the subject.

What will I study?
The course is made up of three modules of British and European History. In the first year we study Britain between 1603 and 1649, focussing on the crises that culminated in the Civil War. We also study the rise of Nazism in Germany between 1918 and 1933.
The second year carries on this British theme by analysing the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell, the Restoration of Charles II and the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The second year also includes the study of Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 40s.
Finally, in the second year there is a personal study project based on an aspect of Russian history, for which you research and write a 4,500 word essay.
